The way I did it was I killed the boss first then there was no one to attack me from behind and then the goblins have to funnel through a narrow passage and you can summon skeleton and hack away and they can't surround you If you have summon skeleton spell it is helpful On that quest try to stay just behind the group and they run fast don't fight until after you bring the log trap down on them (which reqires perfect timing) immediately take their gear get the armor you have the most skill point in let them fight until they die and back away from them so as not to hit them, and kill goblins that come after you there are quite a few that will only attack you so it's hectic, and even harder if you do it at higher lvl. May want to start a new character, research the leveling system, get new gear, bring heal potions, etc. And, if you can't dispatch the remaining goblins yourself, then your going to have a hard time with the rest of the game. Them dying only gets you slightly less gold at the fighters guild even though he says bad job, you still complete it fine. make sure you don't land the killing blow on one of them. The log trap is a great place to kill them all LOL. (this was fixed in latest unofficial oblivion patch). Also their weapons only weigh 5 lbs each, making them vastly superior to their normal counterparts.

It turns out tho, that you want them to die since they have full suits of armor leather, chainmail and steel. That quest is meant to be done at like lv1-3.

That pretty much FORCES you to reload because not only is one of your allies dead, but now all of your other allies think you did it on purpose and proceed to pile on you. The worst part? Is when you're the one that accidentally kills one of your allies D: I'm someone who can't tolerate failing to do something well so I end up having to retry sometimes. Like an early Fighter's Guild questline where you have to deliver weapons to a bunch of fighters in a mine so that you all can take out some goblins.
